| March 2006 We have created a tool to support rapid generation of self-assessment exercises for use with eTEACH. This is the first beta release of the Assessment Generator. This tool is an add-on to Microsoft Word and allows easy creation of assessment exercises which may include extensive mathematical content. All content is made accessible to screen-reader users by the use of MathML. If you are interested in trying out this beta test, please get it from here. |

August 2004 eTEACH 2.4 is finally ready for beta testing! This latest version of eTEACH has major enhancements in two very different areas. First we have added significant new features which will make eTEACH lectures accessible to students with disabilities, including blind students. At the same time we have greatly increased the design options for matching (or contrasting) eTEACH's colors and other elements with those in your PowerPoint slides so you can easily create more professional looking presentations. Another long-awaited feature of this release is support for PowerPoint 2003. Please read about our beta test program and learn how you can become a beta tester here. |

March 2004 eTEACH Author Michael Litzkow along with colleagues Alice Anderson, Christopher Blaire Bundy, and Neal Ewers presented a paper titled "Making Multi-media Web-based Lectures Accessible - Experiences, Problems, and Solutions" at the 19'th Annual International Conference on Technology and Persons with Disabilities. This paper explains the unique challenges multi-media lectures like those created with eTEACH pose for blind students, and shows how we solved many of them. The experimental features which allow blind students to access eTEACH lectures will be part of an upcoming new release. Please read the paper here. |

March 2003 After 9 months of hard work, version 2.3.6 of the eTEACH Authoring Tool is available for download. This version supports "rapid authoring" by providing a video viewer within the authoring tool that is linked to your presentation's timeline. This will make authoring much quicker and more intuitive for most users. For example, you can position the video viewer to a point in time where you want a table of contents item to appear, then add that entry at the correct time offset with the click of a button. We have also added a PowerPoint animation viewer which shows you how your slides look after each animation and allows you to insert an animation change into your timeline, also with the click of a button. All eTEACH authors are encouraged to install this new version right away. Please be sure to check the installation instructions here. |

January 2003 The Department of Biology at San Diego State University has adopted eTEACH for its introductory Biology 100 course, which is used by about 200 students in one section taught by Professor Bob Pozos. Supported by SDSU's Education Center on Computational Science and Engineering, their eTEACH experience is detailed extensively here. |

November 1, 2002 DotEdu hosted a workshop on "Supporting eTEACH". DotEdu will be hosting eTEACH presentations, and supporting both students and instructors using eTEACH throughout the University of Wisconsin System. DotEdu may also contract support for eTEACH outside the UW System. The workshop, conducted by Mike Litzkow, was attended by DotEdu personnel and other close partners in the UW system, and was intended to help them get started in their hosting and support activities. However, we are making the slides used in the presentation available to all who are interested in supporting eTEACH. You can view the PowerPoint slides online or download the presentation for printing or viewing. |

October 3, 2002 After many requests and much effort we have completed the eTEACH Authoring Demo. This eTEACH lecture introduces new and prospective authors to the eTEACH Authoring Tool. Learn how to start a new eTEACH project, create a table of contents, and coordinate PowerPoint slides and animations with your video. This tutorial covers the basics of importing video, PowerPoint, and closed-captioning files and adding events and commands to your timeline. This tutorial is highly recommended for anyone wishing to get started with the eTEACH Authoring Tool, but should offer some tips and tricks for already experienced authors too. This tutorial is intended to supplement the on-line eTEACH Authoring Manual. Many thanks to Joshua Kading for his great work on this project! |
