![]() | March 2003 After 9 months of hard work, version 2.3.6 of the eTEACH Authoring Tool is available for download. This version supports "rapid authoring" by providing a video viewer within the authoring tool that is linked to your presentation's timeline. This will make authoring much quicker and more intuitive for most users. For example, you can position the video viewer to a point in time where you want a table of contents item to appear, then add that entry at the correct time offset with the click of a button. We have also added a PowerPoint animation viewer which shows you how your slides look after each animation and allows you to insert an animation change into your timeline, also with the click of a button. All eTEACH authors are encouraged to install this new version right away. Please be sure to check the installation instructions here. |
![]() | January 2003 The Department of Biology at San Diego State University has adopted eTEACH for its introductory Biology 100 course, which is used by about 200 students in one section taught by Professor Bob Pozos. Supported by SDSU's Education Center on Computational Science and Engineering, their eTEACH experience is detailed extensively here. |
| November 1, 2002 DotEdu hosted a workshop on "Supporting eTEACH". DotEdu will be hosting eTEACH presentations, and supporting both students and instructors using eTEACH throughout the University of Wisconsin System. DotEdu may also contract support for eTEACH outside the UW System. The workshop, conducted by Mike Litzkow, was attended by DotEdu personnel and other close partners in the UW system, and was intended to help them get started in their hosting and support activities. However, we are making the slides used in the presentation available to all who are interested in supporting eTEACH. You can view the PowerPoint slides online or download the presentation for printing or viewing. | ![]() |
| October 3, 2002 After many requests and much effort we have completed the eTEACH Authoring Demo. This eTEACH lecture introduces new and prospective authors to the eTEACH Authoring Tool. Learn how to start a new eTEACH project, create a table of contents, and coordinate PowerPoint slides and animations with your video. This tutorial covers the basics of importing video, PowerPoint, and closed-captioning files and adding events and commands to your timeline. This tutorial is highly recommended for anyone wishing to get started with the eTEACH Authoring Tool, but should offer some tips and tricks for already experienced authors too. This tutorial is intended to supplement the on-line eTEACH Authoring Manual. Many thanks to Joshua Kading for his great work on this project! | ![]() |
![]() | June 20, 2002 The long awaited version 2.1 of the eTEACH Authoring tool is now available for download. This version features drag 'n drop authoring of eTEACH presentations, and should be a welcome change for many who have used the previous XML based authoring tools. This new tool is not only easier to use than previous versions, it's faster too. That's because we've added the ability to guess which slide, animation, or link table you will want to use next. We think you'll find that the guesses are usually right, which eliminates a lot of typing, and really speeds up the work of coordinating actions with your video/audio timeline. Unlike the previous version of eTEACH Author, this version includes an extensive "help page". You can view the help page on-line here. |
![]() | June 20, 2002 In addition to the new help page for eTEACH Author, we've also produced a new help page for eTEACH users. Both of these help pages are the work of the EPD 392 class in the Engineering Professional Development program an the University of Wisconsin - Madison. This class, taught by Traci Kelly, made documenting eTEACH their project for the spring 2002 semester, and they did a really great job! This summer Joshua Kading has taken on the job of completing that work and preparing those materials for web publication. Many thanks to Traci, Joshua, and all the EPD 392 students. |
| Spring Semester 2002 Professor Pam Scheibel
of the UW-Madison School of Nursing began using
eTEACH to instruct students in pediatric health assessment in "Nursing
601: Advanced Assessment - Primary Care". A total of 14 lectures were
produced. Production help was provided by Mike Killips and Brenda
Kupsch. Funding was provided by a UW-Madison Teaching and Learning With
Technology grant. Prof. Scheibel plans to "fine tune" these lectures over the summer and use them in an off-campus course in Fall 2002. | ![]() |
| February 12, 2002 The first University of Wisconsin eTEACH conference is held
on the engineering campus at UW-Madison. This conference was
jointly hosted by the UW College of
Engineering and Dot Edu.
Topics included were an introduction to eTEACH,
discussion of the Computer Sciences 310 project,
and tutorials on digital video
production, eTEACH authoring, and eTEACH hosting and support
issues. About 30 faculty and staff members from various University of
Wisconsin campuses were in attendance.
Dot Edu will be providing support
and hosting services for eTEACH in the future.
In attendance was Dr. Robert Schramm, Executive Director of the On-Line MBA Program at UW-Whitewater. Dr. Schramm decided to use eTEACH as a major instructional tool for his program. | ![]() |
![]() | Summer 2001 Professors Greg Moses and John Strikwerda and Assistant Faculty Associate Rebecca Hasti lead a second team of undergraduates in re-working the Computer Sciences 310 lectures to incorporate improvements suggested by the course evaluation completed during the previous two semesters. All lectures are re-created using the new version of eTEACH. |
![]() | Spring 2001 Associate Researcher Mike Litzkow begins work on a new version of eTEACH which incorporates the new features requested by students in the previous semester. Added features included a total runtime display, rewind/fast-forward buttons, and individual slide review capability. Background noise and other distractions were removed from some of the videos shot outdoors. Slide size was adjusted to accommodate smaller monitors, and eTEACH lecture material was made available on CD-ROM for those without fast internet connections. |
| Fall Semester 2000 / Spring Semester 2001 Computer Sciences 310 is taught to more than 500 students using eTEACH as the sole means of delivering lectures. This course reform effort is formally evaluated by Dr. Julie Foertsch of the LEAD Center. Student evaluations of both eTEACH and the reformed course are favorable. Student survey responses identify several "features" which would further improve eTEACH as an instructional tool. | ![]() |
| Summer 2000 Professors Greg Moses and John Strikwerda begin production of eTEACH lectures for "Computer Sciences 310: Problem Solving Using Computers". Working with a group of 12 undergraduate students, the two professors produce the first complete course to replace "large hall" lectures with eTEACH. | ![]() |
